    The Oregon Department of Administrative Services (DAS) strongly supports the Governor's vision of a sustainable government that spends taxpayers' money prudently and exercises wise stewardship of Oregon's environmental treasures. Because it plays a prominent role in state government, DAS can lead by example and help make sustainability the focus of all state agencies. DAS will infuse a culture of sustainability in state government.

Progress Report 2009-10

In 2008, the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) released a sustainability plan that contained a road map for infusing a culture of sustainability into state government by 2013. The DAS Sustainability Program released a progress report in December 2008 and a biennial report in June 2009. This progress report summarizes the progress, success and lessons learned from the department's actions July 2009 to June 2010.

Proposed Third-Party Solar Project

DAS released a Request for Proposals (RFP) in April 2010. The RFP represents 4.5 megawatts of solar electrical power at 19 building and land locations in Salem and Portland.

Green Teams in DAS Buildings
DAS Green Team logo
Green teams are self-organized, grassroots and cross-functional groups of employees who voluntarily come together to educate, inspire and empower employees around sustainability. DAS recognizes the value and contributions of Green Teams and actively supports their efforts.

Waste-Free DAS
Potlucks will now be waste-free at DAS.
Lunches and social events generate a lot of waste. While they serve an important role to create a sense of community among department staff, they should also model the culture of sustainability at DAS. We plan to ensure that our lunches, potlucks, parties, and public events create little to no waste.

The DAS Sustainability Program and Human Resource Services Division developed a sustainability training module for state government. The module includes two sections: a basic look at concepts and the history of sustainability in state government and another advanced segment that includes ideas to improve workplace sustainability.

The Union Street bridge
The state of Oregon encourages everyone to use alternative transportation to commute to work. The newly renovated Union Street Railroad Bridge is the perfect way to cross the Willamette River for commuters who walk or ride their bicycles to work.

State agencies' green team members tour Garten Services in Salem.
DAS encourages employees to participate in field trips. The trips go to sustainable businesses and community resources in Salem and Portland.

Interagency Sustainability Coordinators Network
The Interagency Sustainability Coordinators Network is comprised of representatives from the top 25 key agencies that impact sustainability. The Network meets six times a year and ensures state agencies are collaborating on sustainability programs and projects.
